Located across from the Base Chapel, the Osan Veterinary Clinic offers routine animal care such as vaccinations, dental cleaning, minor surgeries and Certificate of Health examinations. The clinic also offers sick call and emergency services.

Services provided by the veterinarian clinic include:

* Vaccination: All cats and dogs require yearly rabies vaccination while in Korea. Even if your pet received a three year rabies shot in the states, they will need a yearly booster here. In addition, we recommend annual distemper combination shots for all dogs and feline respiratory combination shots for all cats. Cats which could be exposed should receive feline leukemia shots as well. Dogs who will be boarded or traveling should receive bordatella shots every six months.

* Testing: Heartworm testing is recommended annually for all dogs in Korea. Monthly heartworm preventative is highly recommended for dogs and cats. See attachment for more information on heartworm disease. Bloodwork and additional laboratory testing is available.

* Microchipping: This is a requirement for pets under 25 pounds that are enrolled in NEO. It is a simple injection which can be done at any routine appointment. The microchip holds a number which is coordinated with a world-wide database. Many military installations and even countries are beginning to require this for resident pets. See attachment for further information.

* Pet Adoption and Osan Animal Shelter: The shelter is located at the facility and receives many relinquished, stray, and abandoned dogs and cats. These animals are examined by the veterinarian and tested (dogs over six months are heartworm tested, cats are tested for feline leukemia and feline immunodeffciency virus). If they are deemed adoptable, they are vaccinated and placed up for adoption. Viewing times varying, please check out the Adoption Fact Sheet, Adoption Application, Adoption Agreement, What to Consider Before Adopting A Pet, and Available Animals for Adoption for more information. The VTF does not recommend purchasing market or pet store animals. If you found a stray or considering relinquishing your pet, please call the facility prior to bringing the animal to the facility to ensure staff is available to do an impoundment.

* Retail Sales: Sale of retail animal care products such as heartworm pills, flea and tick repellants and special diet items. Flea and heartworm products are prescription items, so the animal must have been seen at a military veterinarian and be current on required shots and testing for purchase of these items.

* Surgery: Surgeries are done on a waiting list basis. Most patients will wait between two to six weeks for a call to schedule a surgery appointment. Animals must be current on all vaccinations and have been seen at Osan Veterinary Clinic within the last year to be eligible for surgery. All animals that have surgery must get a microchip.

* Referral Services: Yongsan Veterinary Clinic is the referral clinic for all Army Veterinary Services in Korea. They provide advanced surgery and medical treatment. In addition, referral can be made to Seoul University, the Korean Veterinary School.

The clinic’s main mission is the care of numerous military working dogs belonging to the Air Force and the Army. They are also responsible for inspecting all food storage and food procurement facilities in Area Three, to include Camp Humphreys, Camp Eagle and Camp Long. Appointments are recommended and can be made by calling 784-6614. In case of an emergency, you can call the Clinic after hours and a recording will give you the emergency pager # for the on-call technician. If you do not receive a call back using the emergency pager, please call the hospital emergency room at 784-2500 (commercial 031-661-2500). Emergency room personnel can directly contact veterinary technicians in case of emergency.

Members PCS’ing with their pets are required to have a Health Certificate within ten days of traveling. Most countries require a rabies vaccination (with valid certificate) that is more than 30 days old, but less than one year old. See the below document for specific information on travel to different countries with your pet. Some countries and states require an extensive planning and testing period before bringing your pet (Hawaii, Guam, Australia, UK), so please contact us as soon as you find out where you are PCSing to for further information. A physical examination of the pet and its records are necessary for a Health Certificate, so please make an appointment as soon as you know your travel window. In the event your pet needs to be seen by the base Veterinarian after receiving off-base treatment, please bring in any Korean Vet records as the Osan clinic has a translator available.
